With an overall record of 115-110-1, including 7-8-1 last week, TSN football analyst Chris Schultz is back with his Week 16 NFL selections in Risky Business. Tennessee at Jacksonville (-3) For the players, just knowing they will be on a national stage will bring out great effort. on Thursday night. Not because the fans and media are watching, but more because their NFL peers are watching and looking at individual performance and ability. Tennessee is down to Charlie Whitehurst as their third starting quarterback of the season. Whitehurst, like all Titan quarterbacks this season has completed under 60 per cent of his passes. For the Jaguars, it will be interesting to see if Toby Gerhart can reestablish himself as a primary running back. A top and optimistic free agency acquisition, Gerhart needs these two last games to earn his value again. Late in the season, I have to go with Jacksonville at home and winning to eliminate themselves from first-overall pick eligibility for 2015. Jaguars cover. Philadelphia (-9) at Washington This is pretty much a playoff game for the Philadelphia Eagles. On offence, the high tempo style of play that the Eagles run is extremely entertaining and explosive, but it is also dangerous and difficult to master. The Eagles have 34 turnovers so for this season, the highest number in the entire league. These last two games for Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III are very important for his career. You definitely get the sense that Jay Gruden is not sold on Griffin, but if he has two rock solid games - especially against Philadelphia and Dallas - perception can change. This is a divisional game, so Washington has a good book on the Eagle offence. I’d bet Philadelphia wins, but Washington shows up. Redskins on points. San Diego at San Francisco (-2.5) I think the most disturbing aspect of 49er football is that Bruce Miller, a fullback, was Colin Kaepernicks leading receiver against the Seattle Seahawks with four catches. Not Anquan Boldin, not Vernon Davis, not Michael Crabtree or Steve Johnson or Brandon Lloyd. Bruce Miller. Logic says San Diego rolls with two more wins to finish the year at 10. But you take away a controversial hit in the chest of Russell Wilson last week, and the 49ers could have taken the Seahawks into overtime. 49ers. Baltimore (-4.5) at Houston The Texans are down to their fourth quarterback and face an uphill climb to the playoffs. Unless Arian Foster can have a 150-yard day on the ground, it’s likely the Ravens can dominate defensively. At 9-5 with this game in Houston and Cleveland at home next week, the Ravens could very easily finish with 11 wins. Pittsburgh is in Kansas City and Cincinnati plays Denver this week, both matchups are competitive advantages for Baltimore. If Joe Flacco can get an early lead, Thad Lewis or Case Keenum will be forced to throw the ball and play catch up football. Baltimore wins by seven to cover. Green Bay (-10.5) at Tampa Bay I anticipate the poor receiver performance by the Green Bay Packers will not be repeated against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week. Green Bay had seven drops last week in Buffalo, the highest in a game by any team since 2008. Seven drops is as many as many as a team would drop in half a season. Solving the Buccaneers catching problems is Mike Evans, who is having an astonishing year as the team’s top receiver. However, Evan’s can’t do it all and, as an offence, Tampa Bay has scored 17 points or less in a game. I can see Green Bay scoring their season average of 31. Packers. Kansas City at Pittsburgh (-3) The Pittsburgh Steelers have the two most consistently explosive players in the NFL on their offence. If you add up the rushing yards and receiving yards of Leveon Bell and Antonio Brown, they total 3,541 yards and 21 touchdowns. Now, if you add up the rushing, receiving yards of Jammal Charles and tight end Travis Kelce - the Chiefs top receiver – they total 1,932 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Chiefs have zero touchdown passes to any of their wide receivers. Not one! It’s amazing that the Chiefs are just two games away from going an entire NFL season without 1 touchdown pass to a wide receiver. Is it an anomaly and oddity, or execution weakness? Steelers. Cleveland at Carolina (No line) It wont get any easier for Johnny Manziel, as moves on from the tough defence in Cincinnati to that of the Panthers. The game will slow down a bit for Manziel in his second game, but most young quarterbacks struggle on the road early in their careers. Whether Cam Newton starts or not, is not a big issue for Carolina. Derek Anderson has five touchdown passes to no interceptions and is completing 67 per cent of his passes. All of a sudden Derek Anderson is a commodity to be looked at as a backup quarterback that may have starting skills. At 5-8, as crazy as it sounds, Carolina can still win the NFC South by beating Cleveland this week, besting Atlanta next week and having the Saints lose to Atlanta this week or in Tampa Bay. The great battle to watch in this game? Browns cornerback Joe Haden against Panthers rookie Kelvin Benjamin. Carolina. Detroit (-7) at Chicago It’s hard to have performance faith in the Bears after watching a disorganized and unmotivated effort against the Saints on Monday night. Now, the Lions come to town. Detroit is tied with Green Bay and if the Lions beat the Bears on Sunday and beat the Packers next week, then they will win the NFC North. Quite simply, the Lions control their own destiny. No team has allowed fewer points than Detroit this season with 238, and as long as they concentrate here and now and don’t look ahead to next week’s Packer game, the Saints 31-15 win over Bears could be duplicated. Lions cover. Minnesota at Miami (-6.5) There’s a lot of talk of a new head coach in Miami, which is due as much to Joe Philbins personality as it is to his 22-24 record – and no playoff appearances. Minnesota’s coaching situation, meanwhile is in no doubt. Mike Zimmer is the man with the Vikings and his defense held Detroit to a season-low, 233 yards last week. Another major positive is Zimmer has great confidence in quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in the present and the future. Under Zimmer, the Vikings are becoming very good at staying in the present moment and never look to far forward or behind. Vikings. Atlanta at New Orleans (-6) In Week 1, New Orleans at Atlanta was an entertaining and well played Falcons 37-34 win, which was determined by a key turnover by the Saints in overtime. Did the Falcons beat the Saints or did the Saints beat themselves on that day? Move 15 weeks ahead, the venue will change but the goal of an NFC South victory will not. The number one key issue is the relative heath of Julio Jones. I say relative health because even if he plays, he may not be 100 per cent due a hip injury. Both teams have had absolutely bizarre seasons of ineffective play in almost all aspects of football. But this is a divisional game and it could mean the difference between a home playoff game and golf. Both team know this is it. Falcons. New England (-10) at New York Jets The Patriots on offence are like any great team, once they figure you out, find a flow, a rhythm and a weakness, they explode. The Patriots scored 24 in the third quarter of last week’s game against Miami and 41-13. Last week, Tom Brady won his 12th divisional title, the most by any quarterback in NFL history. The good news for the Jets was they ended a three-game losing streak with a win at Tennessee last week. But Tennessee was just nine yards away from winning the game until time ran out, not to mention the Titans are 2-11. Patriots. New York at St. Louis (-5) Pass protection will be really important in this game for Eli Manning after Robert Quinn and the St. Louis pass rush failed to factor in the Rams loss to Arizona last week. Odell Beckham needs 28 receiving yards to hit 1000 on the year, and by doing so would be the first rookie in Giants history to do so. As unusual as this may sound, the giants have known for weeks they are not a playoff team. The Rams, meanwhile, just found out last Thursday. Advantage Giants. Buffalo (-5.5) at Oakland This will be an excellent test for Derek Carr. The Bills defence held Peyton Manning to 173 passing yards and Aaron Rodgers to 180. If Carr can have four quarters of success he really has arrived. Pass protection is so important; Carr has only been sacked 20 times but has been hit or hurried more than 100 times. The Bills could have a 10-win season by beating the Raiders and Patriots next week! I’m taking the Bills. Indianapolis at Dallas (-3) Of all positions in football an NFL running back has the shortest life span because they get hit so often and in so many different ways. DeMarco Murray will be a gameday decision. That will be a critical decision as no running back in football gains more yards before contact, and no running back in football gains more yards after contact. Key match-up in this game: Colts cornerback Vontae Davis, who has a league high 20 passes defended, four interceptions, and has not allowed a touchdown pass this season, against Cowboys WR Dez Bryant, who had 114 receiving yards against Philadelphia and three touchdowns. TY Hilton could be out a hamstring issue. Will the edge be taken off for the Colts after winning the AFC South? No way. Colts. Seattle (-8) at Arizona I dont know how they are going to do it but I think they can do it and that is keep this game within eight points. No doubt that Ryan Lindley is painfully inexperienced, having thrown only 10 NFL passes this year, and now faces an NFL defence in Seattle that is playing its best. Still, Arizona on defence is their equal. Seven times Arizona corralled, contained and caught Russell Wilson behind the line of scrimmage in their previous meeting four weeks ago. This rarely works, but I would not be surprised to see Logan Thomas at quarterback too for Arizona. The team that wins this game has the inside lane in the race for NFC home field advantage. Bruce Arians will be at his imaginative best come Sunday night. Cardinals cover. Denver (-3) at Cincinnati The Bengals go from Johnny Manziel to Peyton Manning in one week. And it’s a different Peyton Manning. Only 20 passes thrown in each of the last two games at San Diego and Buffalo but Manning is in total control of the offence. Lost in the success of Jeremy Hill and the power running of Cincinnati was a very below average deep ball throwing day for Andy Dalton. If Denver limits Hill and forces Dalton to beat them, I am not confident he can do it. Denver has to win this one. They are tied with New England at 11-3 with two to go, but New England beat Denver already this season in New England. Broncos. Justin Evans Jersey . Louis Cardinals, the team will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the opening of the SkyDome. MINNEAPOLIS -- Joe Mauer hit a two-run double that just missed reaching the seats and Kevin Correia pitched a smooth six innings to help the Minnesota Twins beat the Chicago White Sox for the third straight game, 4-3 on Saturday. Glen Perkins pitched another tenuous ninth inning but got his 19th save in 22 tries after giving up two runs to blow one the night before. Adam Eaton led off with a triple and scored on Gordon Beckhams sacrifice fly. Pinch-hitter Paul Konerko then smacked a single up the middle, but Perkins struck out Jose Abreu and Adam Dunn to end it and punctuated the final swing and miss with a big pump of his left arm. With the Twins trailing 2-1, Mauers drive in the fifth inning soared over left fielder Alejandro De Aza and landed about halfway up the wall. Kendrys Morales hit the next pitch for an RBI single against Andre Rienzo (4-5), who lost his fifth straight start. Correia (4-8) gave up five runs or more in five of his first 12 starts, sliding toward replacement in the rotation, but the 33-year-old right-hander has pitched superbly in three turns since. In 18 innings, Correia has allowed a total of two earned runs and walked only four. He surrendered his share of sharp drives on this picture-perfect first-day-of-summer afternoon, but the defence behind him didnt do him any favours. Centre fielder Sam Fuld tried to dive for a two-out sinking liner by Conor Gillaspie in the first inning, but the ball skipped in front of and past him for a triple and Abreu followed with an RBI single. Then third baseman Eduardo Escobar bungled a routine ground ball by letting it slide between his legs to start the second inning. The White Sox only needed a single, a walk and a two-out hit-by-pitch to produce the unearned run. Correias 3-1 bases-loaded fastball bounced off Beckhams elbow and hit catcher Kurt Suzuki in the throat, but he was all right to stay in the game. Escobar committed a second error on a similar play the next inning, but Correia escaped trouble with a double-play groundball by Dayan Viciedo.dddddddddddd The Brazilian-born Rienzo, who debuted for the White Sox last summer, was 4-0 after his first six starts following the rotator cuff injury that knocked Felipe Paulino out of action. Rienzo has struggled badly since, though, by finishing the fifth inning in only two of his last five turns. His ERA during the losing streak is 8.87. The Twins hit three straight two-out singles in the second inning to load the bases, and Fuld walked to force in the first run. Then Rienzo hit Brian Dozier with a pitch to put two runners on for Mauer in the fifth inning, setting the struggling six-time All-Star and three-time batting champion up for just his fourth multi-RBI game this season. Two of those have been in this series. The White Sox have hung around the pack in the American League Central all year, never losing or winning more than four games in a row, but this has been a rough start to an 11-game road trip. They fell a season-high five games under .500 and back into last place. The Twins took a five-game losing streak into this series. Their starters have a 2.41 ERA over the last 11 games. NOTES: Mauer has 18 of his 20 RBIs this season at Target Field. ... Gillaspie went 2 for 4 to raise his average to .340, but he doesnt have enough at-bats to qualify yet for the league batting lead. In his last 30 games, Gillaspie is batting .366. ... Twins RF Oswaldo Arcia is hitless in his last 27 at-bats. ... The White Sox will send John Danks (6-5, 3.97) to the mound for the series finale Sunday, and Phil Hughes (7-3, 3.09 ERA) will pitch for the Twins. Danks has a 5.70 ERA in six road starts this season. Hughes gave up three HRs in his last home start, the only time a team has taken him deep in his last eight turns. ... White Sox manager Robin Ventura successfully challenged a call in the third inning, when Brian Dozier originally led off with a double. Replays showed Beckhams tag grazed Doziers foot before it landed on the base.
