The new-look Vikings enjoy some success, Steve Smith burns his former team, emerging talent at tight end, Rivers, Eli, Rodgers, Luck and more in Scott Cullena€?s 20 Points on NFL Week Four. 1. Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (19-for-30, 317 YDS) was outstanding in his first NFL start, a win over Atlanta. His preferred target was WR Jarius Wright (8 REC, 132 YDS, 10 targets) RB Matt Asiata (100 YDS, 3 TD, 23 touches), ahead of Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson. Bridgewater did suffer a sprained ankle, which does dim the lights a little, but that doesnt take away from the immediate positive results. Minnesotaa€?s running game also got a jolt from rookie Jerick McKinnon (152 YDS, 19 touches), who complemented Matt Asiata (100 YDs, 3 TD, 23 touches) nicely. 2. Along with McKinnon, other rookie runners getting some touches include Titans RB Bishop Sankey (57 YDS, 1 TD, 8 touches) and Giants RB Andre Williams (66 YDS, 1 TD, 15 carries). 3. Ravens WR Steve Smith had a monster performance (7 REC, 139 YDS, 2 TD, 10 targets) against his former team, Carolina. While Smitha€?s production has come at the expense of Torrey Smith, Ravens QB Joe Flacco (22-for-31, 327 YDs, 3 TD) cana€?t be complaining. He has a proven playmaker putting up big numbers a€“ Steve Smith ranks third in the league with 429 receiving yards and his 107.3 receiving yards per game is a career high. 4. Tight end has been quite a position for emerging talent this season. Bears TE Martellus Bennett (9 REC, 134 YDS, 11 targets) now ranks third among tight ends with 295 receiving yards. With injuries hindering the Bearsa€? wide receivers, Bennett is rising to the challenge. The only two tight ends with more receiving yards than Bennett are the expected Saints TE Jimmy Graham (340 YS) and the less-expected, Titans TE Delanie Walker (317 YDS). While wea€?re on breakthrough tight ends, Giants TE Larry Donnell (7 REC, 54 YDS, 3 TD, 8 targets) had another productive game against Washington and ranks fifth in receiving yardage at 236. 5. Chargers QB Philip Rivers (29-for-39, 377 YDS, 3 TD) continued his strong play with an expected big day against Jacksonville. Forever linked to Rivers by their draft day trade, Giants QB Eli Manning (28-for-39, 300 YDS, 4 TD, 1 INT) is bouncing back after a rough start to the season. In wins over Houston and Washington the past two weeks, Manning has completed 73.1% of his passes, while throwing just one interception. 6. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (22-for-28, 302 YDS, 4 TD) got on track with a big game against the Bears and when Rodgers is on, that means good things for WR Randall Cobb (7 REC, 113 YDS, 2 TD, 9 targets) and WR Jordy Nelson (10 REC, 108 YDS, 2 TD, 12 targets). Still worth keeping an eye on rookie Davante Adams too a€“ Packers had three fantasy-relevant wideouts when James Jones was involved. 7. Colts QB Andrew Luck (29-for-41, 393 YDS, 4 TD, 1 INT) has taken off in the last two weeks, throwing for eight touchdowns and 763 yards in wins over Tennessee and Jacksonville. He now leads the league in passing yards (1,305) and touchdowns (13). 8. Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (17 YDS, 10 carries) continued to struggle against San Francisco. Hea€?s gained 256 yards from scrimmage through four games, putting him at 64.0 per game, down a long way from last seasona€?s 134.1 yards per game. 9. Falcons WR Roddy White (4 REC, 73 YDS, 1 TD, 14 targets) was strangely the most-targeted receiver for QB Matt Ryan in the loss at Minnesota. It would be one thing if he was hauling in a lot of those passes thrown his way, but four of 14? Maybe look in the direction of Julio Jones a couple more times. 10. 49ers RB Frank Gore (174 YDS, 1 TD, 25 touches) isna€?t ready to cede touches in the 49ersa€? offence to rookie Carlos Hyde. Gore ranks 10th among running backs with 325 yards from scrimmage. 11. Raiders WR Andre Holmes (5 REC, 74 YDS, 1 TD, 12 targets) emerged as the favourite target for Raiders QBs Derek Carr and Matt McGloin in Sundaya€?s loss to Miami. That those are the two quarterback options for the Raiders obviously limit the appeal of any of their receivers, let alone a 26-year-old with 38 career catches, but ita€?s worth keeping an eye on Holmes who, at 6-foot-5, is a big target. 12. Dolphins RB Lamar Miller (67 YDs, 2 TD, 1 lost fumble, 14 touches) is holding his own as the starter with Knowshon Moreno sidelined. 13. Buccaneers WR Louis Murphy (6 REC, 99 YDS, 11 targets) emerged as a preferred target for QB Mike Glennon (21-for-42, 302 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT). With rookie WR Mike Evans hurt, Murphy has a chance to play a regular role for the Bucs, at least for the next few weeks. 14. Lions WR Golden Tate (8 REC, 116 YDS, 10 targets) was Matthew Stafforda€?s top target with Calvin Johnson (2 REC, 12 YDS, 2 targets) limited by an ankle injury. 15. Injuries continued to plague the Carolina Panthersa€? backfield. RB DeAngelo Williams (34 YDS, 11 carries) left Sundaya€?s loss to Baltimore, giving rookie Darrin Reaves an opportunity (37 YDS, 15 touches). With Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert already hurt, Reaves, an undrafted rookie out of Alabama-Birmingham, is set to start for the Panthers against Chicago next week. 16. Colts RB Trent Richardson (99 YDS, 1 TD, 24 touches) hasna€?t had a 100-yard rushing game since the ninth game of the 2012 season, but he has gained at least 80 yards from scrimmage in each of the last three games. 17. Bears RB Matt Forte (171 YDS, 28 touches) is up to third among running backs in yards from scrimmage, trailing Dallasa€? DeMarco Murray (602 YDS) and Pittsburgha€?s Lea€?Veon Bell (570 YDS). 18. Backfield timeshares: Bills RB C.J. Spiller (94 YDS, 18 touches) had a little more than Fred Jackson (85 YDS, 13 touches) Ravens RB Justin Forsett (97 YDS, 1 TD, 17 touches) and Lorenzo Taliaferro (58 YDS, 1 TD, 15 carries) were relatively balanced. Jets RB Chris Ivory (100 YDS, 19 touches) continued to decimate the value of Chris Johnson (61 YDS, 1 TD, 8 touches), though Johnsona€?s touchdown made his day worthwhile. Chargers RB Donald Brown (54 YDS, 14 touches) is having a hard time pulling away from Branden Oliver (56 YDS, 13 touches) while Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead are out. Saints RB Khiry Robinson (105 YDS, 8 touches) had a few more touches than Pierre Thomas (23 YDS, 4 touches), but the running game kind of got lost when the Saints fell behind 31-3 to Dallas. 19. Titans rookie QB Zach Mettenberger (2-for-5, 17 YDS, 1 INT) got into the game at Indianapolis, replacing Charlie Whitehurst. Neither was particularly effective and that does limit the appeal of Titans receivers, aside from TE Delanie Walker. 20. Washington FS Ryan Clark (14 tackles), Washington OLB Keenan Robinson (13 tackles, 1 INT), Washington SS Brandon Meriweather (13 tackles), Packers SS Morgan Burnett (13 tackles), Packers OLB A.J. Hawk (13 tackles), Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson (8 tackles, 1.5 sacks), Colts ILB Da€?Qwell Jackson (10 tackles, 1 sack), Buccaneers OLB Lavonte David (12 tackles, 3 TFL), Lions LB Tahir Whitehead (12 tackles), Titans ILB Wesley Woodyard (9 tackles, 1 INT), Jets FS Dawan Landry (11 tackles, .5 sack), Cowboys LB Justin Durant (8 tackles, 1 INT), Dolphins DE Derrick Shelby (3 tackles, 2 sacks), Bills OLB Nigel Bradham (3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT). Johns IceCaps erased an early two-goal deficit to come from behind and defeat the host Portland Pirates 5-4 on Saturday in American Hockey League action.PITTSBURGH -- The National League MVP doesnt play favourites when it comes to hot streaks. Neither do the Pittsburgh Pirates, who rode Andrew McCutchen to another win Wednesday. McCutchen homered and reached base four times and the Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 4-2 at rainy PNC Park on Wednesday night. McCutchen is batting .462 during a seven-game hitting streak and has 12 extra-base hits during 10 June games. "I dont compare (career-best stretches)," McCutchen said. "Im not big on that. Im just seeing the ball hitting the ball. Im in a spurt where Im feeling really good right now." So are the Pirates, who have taken two of the first three games of the series with their NL Central rivals. Pittsburghs Brandon Cumpton (2-2) pitched five effective innings, and the offence pounded Cubs starter Jason Hammel (6-4) for 11 hits in five innings, snapping his streaks of 14 1-3 innings without allowing a run and 52 innings without allowing a homer when McCutchen hit his 10th in the first. McCutchen also had a single and walked twice. "Hes hot," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "When he gets his pitch, hes not missing." Luis Valbuena likewise continued his recent strong hitting with three hits for last-place Chicago, which has lost three of four after a season-best five-game winning streak. The games first pitch was delayed 1 hour, 38 minutes because of a severe thunderstorm that began sweeping through downtown Pittsburgh about an hour before the scheduled start time. Rain fell again during the sixth inning. McCutchens fly ball landed more than a row into the left-field seats -- but it almost became an extra-long out when leftfielder Chris Coghlan leaped into the stands. He landed in the seats and said he had a read on the ball but that a fan outmanoeuvred him for it. "Best non-catch effort Ive ever seen," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. "I would have went there and shook his hand myself if he caught that ball," McCutchen said. The Pirates Gregory Polanco went 1 for 5 with an RBI groundout a day after his much-hyped major league debut Tuesday. Making his sixth start of the season and fourth since being given a regular rotation spot, Cumpton allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts. On his final pitch, he struck out Nate Schierholtz swinging with the bases loaded. "Its something I need to work on, getting through the fifth and sixth innings," Cumpton said.dddddddddddd "It was a good experience, a real confidence booster for me." Justin Wilson, Tony Watson, Mark Melancon and Jason Grilli followed with a hitless inning each. Grilli earned his 10th save of the season during what was his 400th career appearance. Hammel had won two previous starts against the Pirates this season and entered Wednesday with the second-best WHIP in the majors (0.88). He allowed 14 baserunners Wednesday. "It was rough," Hammel said with a laugh. "A lot of hits given up. Up in the zone. Obviously could have been better strikes thrown, but I battled through. It could have been a lot worse - 11 hits through five innings? Its amazing they only put up four." Hammel was spared a worse line by some poor baserunning by Pittsburgh, which hit into two peculiar double plays and had another runner thrown out at third during the seventh inning after Hammel was out of the game. The Pirates Starling Marte had two hits - including an RBI single in the fifth inning - but also was thrown out on the basepaths for the third time in two games when he was picked off third following a Travis Snider pop-up behind home plate in the fifth. The Cubs briefly tied the game at 2 in the second when John Bakers single drove in Valbuena and Nate Schierholtz scored on a groundout. Notes: Before the game, the Pirates places LHP Francisco Liriano on the disabled list because of a strained left oblique that caused him to leave his start Tuesday in the fourth inning. . The Cubs on Wednesday announced they signed their first-round draft pick, Indiana University catcher/outfielder Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber, the No. 4 overall selection, will report to the organizations short-season Class A affiliate in Boise, Idaho. . Pirates 2B Josh Harrison was removed from the game for a pinch hitter during the third inning because of discomfort in his left ankle. . A fireworks display - from the nearby annual Pittsburgh arts festival - rumbled PNC Park for several minutes during the fourth inning. . Pittsburghs Thursday scheduled starter, RHP Edionson Volquez, is 5-0 in his career against the Cubs. Chicagos probable starter, RHP Jeff Samardzija, has a 1.90 ERA in 71 career innings against the Pirates, including seven shutout innings on opening day at PNC Park.
