Derek Carr was under pressure almost constantly. Some 30 of the 52 sacks the Raiders gave up were surrendered by the combination of Kolton Miller and Brandon Parker.Miller suffered a knee injury in week four which he couldn’t fully recover. He was always seen as a raw project who needed to add some bulk as well in order to perform at the NFL level. He remains the team’s left tackle.Taking over at right tackle is Trent Brown who protected Tom Brady’s blind side last season as the Patriots won the Super Bowl. That earned Brown a record contract, despite being moved back to right tackle and never having made a Pro Bowl or being considered a great talent on either side of the line. But right tackle is where he has the most experience.With Brown in house, Brandon Parker moves to the backup role at right tackle with former fourth round pick David Sharpe backing up the left side. Ultimately they would like Parker to be the reserve swing tackle, but at this point no one really knows which one will come out on top or if the team will simply be picking the lesser of the evils.Condition: UnstableThe main worry is with Kolton Miller. Best case scenario his issues were health and development related. Jon Gruden is counting on that. Miller defenders point to his first three games in which he didn’t give up a sack as proof that when healthy Josh Jacobs jersey 2019 , he is the first round talent the Raiders drafted him to be. Although some believe the Raiders will use one of their three first-round picks on a quarterback, that doesn’t mean the Raiders will move on from Carr this year. He’s the guy, at least for another year.Second, they could still trade him. With a total compensation package of $20 million for this season and a total package for the following three seasons of $58.5 million ($19.5 million per year), other teams could be very interested in a contract that is very favorable in light of the current market. With only $7.5 million in dead money left on his deal, it would be easy for the Raiders to eat the cap charge and move on, if another team wants to trade for Carr.Third, cutting Carr would violate the convention that relates to the triggers for full guarantees. The rule of thumb among teams and agents is that, when a salary becomes fully guaranteed in the days after the opening of the waiver period, the player will not be cut. When the guarantee fully vests based on the start of the new league year in March, cutting the player is fair game.Bottom line? Unless he’s cut today (and he won’t be), Carr will make $20 million this year. Whether he makes that money from the Raiders or another team remains to be seen.
